Drug and alcohol abuse programs for Vets are central for the mental well-being and overall stability of Veterans of all branches of the military. Because substance abuse and other mental health disorders are experienced at higher than average rates among Veterans, it is important that Veterans get the essential assistance they need due to such high rates of suicide also associated with these disorders among our Vets.
Substance abuse programs for Veterans in Allakaket are available from the VA, with services that include programs to handle associated problems such as relationship problems, irritability, disturbed sleep, pain, depression, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Veterans. Treatment for addiction and associated problems among Military Vets includes individual and group therapy and psychotherapies which can increase an individual's motivation to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications are also used in some circumstances to help Veterans decrease their drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
