DWI clients in treatment need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the conditions of their sentencing. Rehab facilities which help fulfill these demands and terms, which are typically much more lenient than regular sentencing which would include large fines and jail time, are offered in Belk to provide DWI classes, counseling, and additional evaluation for severe alcohol or drug issues.
Drug and Alcohol Education is a primary treatment tool used at rehab programs treating DWI offenders. There are different levels of alcohol education classes and this can differ by state. Level I education typically include 12 hours of education related to the effects of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a single offense or someone under 21 will often be required to do. Level II classes would include both education and therapy in a court approved program. The duration the person will be required to participate in therapy depends upon a few factors, which can be, for example, the number of DWI's the individual has had, and the seriousness of the violation. In most cases, individuals will be required to take the Level II classes and therapy unless their blood-alcohol content level was very low when they were stopped and there were no other significant charges when the individual was arrested.
