Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Daleville, AL.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug or alcohol abuse and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks or takes opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, someone who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These medications must be used as part of a rehab program in Daleville that also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk with your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
