Substance abuse facilities for Vets are essential for the mental well-being and overall stability of Veterans of all branches of the armed forces. Because drug and alcohol abuse and other mental health disorders are experienced at higher than average rates among Vets, it is important that they get the essential assistance they need due to such high suicide rates also associated with these disorders with our Vets.
Drug and alcohol abuse programs for Vets in Guin are available through the VA, with services that include efforts to address associated disorders such as relationship problems, irritability, disturbed sleep, pain, depression, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Veterans. Rehabilitation for substance abuse and related disorders among Military Veterans includes individual and group therapy and psychotherapies which can increase an individual's desire to change. Involvement in outside support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications can also be available in some circumstances to help Military Vets lessen their drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Military Veterans are offered during the evening and weekend hours, with both residential and outpatient programs available. Programs which are Women-Only or Men-Only and those for homeless Vets are available in certain areas.
