Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Lenox, AL.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Lenox that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
