Treatment Services for the Hearing Impaired - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Challenge, CA.

Drug treatment services for the hearing impaired are accessible in both an outpatient and inpatient basis. People with hearing impairment can be at a higher risk of substance abuse disorders because of their impairment. Having a major disability can be a source of distress, discouragement, depression, unhappiness and apathy for both adolescents and adults who may turn to drugs or alcohol to cope with these emotions. Hearing impaired services are available in Challenge to help resolve addiction for these clients, with ASL and other assistance which offers recovery and treatment information and education in writing so that patients aren't inhibited from receiving help due to their disability.

Drug and alcohol treatment facilities that have full time staff to provide assistance for the hearing impaired are the most appropriate facilities to select. Some facilities may only have part-time staff to assist and interpret hearing impaired clients, and this means hearing impaired clients may not benefit as much as everyone else and will miss out on important activities they should be involved with daily. There may be video presentations offered which use sign language as well, which is also quite helpful.

There are organizations and agencies that can provide hearing impaired people struggling with substance abuse issues with information and resources to discover and locate the rehabilitation services they need. One is the Deaf Off Drugs and Alcohol (DODA).
