Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Kerman, CA.

Vivitrol is a drug used to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, an individual who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of 7 days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These meds must be used as part of a rehab program in Kerman which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological tools can help you build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
