Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - San Fernando, CA.

There are programs offered in or near San Fernando that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
