Clients referred from the court for drug rehabilitation are typically referred because they are being given a chance to receive rehab instead of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can be offered at any point such as while the defendant is already incarcerated. There are various types of programs that criminal justice clients may be referred to, and this all depends on which programs are available in Center and the type of issues they'll need treatment for.
There are recovery programs that work directly with the criminal justice court system to administer to this explicit type of clientele, and are typically state or federally funded or are available at no cost or very little cost to the client. Additionally, there are also private addiction rehabilitation facilities that might be approved by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the client needs or prefers that a different facility can't fulfill. The defendant's attorney can present such alternatives to the judge for acceptance. There are even addiction recovery programs that provide services from the correctional institutions themselves, whereas clients are sometimes in a better position for early release or other benefits when engaging in addiction rehabilitation services while serving their time for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
