The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
