DWI clients in rehab need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the terms of their court sentencing. Rehab programs which help satisfy these requirements and conditions, which are typically much more lenient than normal sentencing which would include steep fines and incarceration, are offered in Peetz to provide educational services, therapy, and additional evaluation for individuals with heavy substance abuse issues.
Education is a primary tool used at rehabs treating DWI clients. There are various levels of alcohol education classes and this can differ by state. Level I education usually consist of 12 hours of education related to the effects of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what someone with a first offense or someone under 21 will usually be required to do. Level II classes would consist of both substance abuse education and group therapy at a program which is approved by the courts. How long a person will be required to participate in therapy depends upon a few factors, which can include how many DWI's the offender has had, and the seriousness of the violation. Most often clients will be required to take the Level II classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol content was very low when they were arrested and there weren't any other serious charges when the person was arrested.
