Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Jacksonville Beach, FL.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Jacksonville Beach which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
