Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Boston, GA.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Boston that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
