The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Conyers are programs which are legally allowed to dispense the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehab center can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehab facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of certification that was given.
