Drug and alcohol treatment services are available in a vast range of formats, so there is definitely something for everyone in Gay. Treatment services may be offered in both an outpatient and inpatient basis, where outpatient services range from 1 or 2 days of treatment per week to intensive outpatient treatment services which is done daily. Outpatient treatment services range from individual counseling and group counseling, to more advanced psychotherapies to modify behavior and motivate clients to stay sober.
Inpatient and residential rehab is available to people who struggle with more substantial histories of substance abuse, ranging from 30 - 90 day programs. Some programs offer what is called a Therapeutic Community model, where clients may stay as long as a year in certain situations. The longer the person remains in in rehab and benefits from services and a clean and sober atmosphere, the greater their chances of remaining clean and being able stay that way without requiring such a comprehensive system of support. Services at an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab center are usually more diverse and can incorporate services for addiction but also other co-occurring mental health disorders. Aftercare and relapse prevention services are key even ensuing long-term treatment, and many facilities recommend ongoing engagement in the program for a few months until the individual has shifted into a drug free way of life.
