There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a med which blocks the effects of opioids. A person consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
