The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
