The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Armstrong are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation that was given.
