The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Davenport are programs that are officially allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment program can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation that was given.
