The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
