SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Elkader, IA.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Elkader are programs which are legally allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation that was granted.
