There are three different types of mental health treatment, including hospital inpatient, residential, and outpatient. Some people who may need assistance for a mental health disorder may want an outpatient approach due to their responsibilities or due to the stigma they'd like to avoid because of their disorder. Most clients can still maintain a normal work or school day and receive outpatient mental health treatment with 100% privacy and discretion.
Outpatient mental health centers are either based in private offices, hospitals or community health centers in Jamaica. The intensity of outpatient mental health treatment can be different from place to place, but can be from daily treatment to attendance a few days a week or more. An outpatient mental health facility will conduct a full evaluation of the person's medical history, both physical and mental, which includes their prescription drug and illicit drug history. Psychological evaluation is also a standard process, and clinicians and doctors will design a plan of treatment that can include individual psychotherapy, group therapy, family therapy, marriage/couples counseling, etc. If the person requiring treatment also has a co-occurring disorder such as an alcohol or drug addiction, most outpatient mental health centers are prepared to handle such a dual diagnosis.
