Regular outpatient treatment is mostly a less costly alternative to more comprehensive outpatient centers or inpatient treatment, and is the lowest intensity of formal substance abuse treatment available in Alma. Some individuals are in rehab for their first time and have chosen regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and commitment to time wise and logistically because of work, school or other obligations. For many, regular outpatient is a "step-down" from treatment in a more intense outpatient facility like a partial hospitalization or in-patient program.
Regular outpatient rehabilitation services usually offer group and individual counseling services delivered once or twice a week. Programs that include a more diverse spectrum of services may include psychotherapies (CBT) to help with relapse prevention and dual-diagnosis services to help address co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. How long an individual remains in rehab can change from client to client, and a client's improvement can be assessed occasionally and an extension of rehab can be suggested based on these conclusions.
In some cases, a regular outpatient rehab facility may be lacking in intensity for an individual who is dealing with a chronic substance abuse issue and has not gone to treatment previously or has fallen off the wagon following previous outpatient treatment.
