Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Andalusia, IL.

There are programs offered in or near Andalusia which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
