The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation facilities in Des Plaines are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment facility can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of accreditation that was given.
