Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is encouraged.
