Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Magnolia, IL.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Magnolia which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is encouraged.
