Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - New Bedford, IL.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near New Bedford which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
