DWI clients in rehab need specific requirements met to fulfill the conditions of their sentencing. Treatment programs that help fulfill these requirements and terms, which are usually much more lenient than regular sentencing such as steep fines and incarceration, are offered in Ohio to provide educational services, therapy, and additional assessment for individuals with heavy alcohol or drug problems.
Education is an essential treatment tool used at rehab programs catering to DWI offenders. There are different levels of alcohol education which can differ by state. Level I education generally consist of 12 hours of group education related to the effects of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what someone with a single conviction or someone under 21 will often be required to complete. Level II classes would consist of both education and therapy in a program which is approved by the courts. How long a client will have to be in therapy depends on various factors, which can include how many DWI's the offender has had, and the seriousness of the violation. Ordinarily, clients will be sentenced to the Level II classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol level was extremely low when they were arrested and there weren't any other serious charges when the individual was arrested.
