Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Rock City, IL.

There are addiction programs available in or near Rock City which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will instead not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is encouraged.
