Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Wadsworth, IL.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Wadsworth that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
