SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Washington, IL.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Washington are programs which are officially permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation facility can get their initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation that was granted.
