The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification it has been granted.
