The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Mexico are programs which are officially allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of certification it has been given.
