Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Vets are crucial for the mental well-being and overall stability of Vets of all branches of the armed forces. Because drug and alcohol abuse and other mental health disorders are experienced at higher than average rates among Vets, it is important that Veterans get the assistance they need because of such high suicide rates also associated with these disorders among our Vets.
Drug and alcohol abuse programs for Vets in Peru are available from the VA, with services that include measures to address associated disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, disturbed sleep, irritability, and/or relationship problems which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Vets. Rehab for addiction and associated disorders among Vets includes psychotherapies and group and individual therapy which can increase an individual's motivation to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications are also used in some circumstances to help Military Veterans lessen their tobacco, alcohol, and drug use.
