Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Buffalo, KS.

There are recovery programs available in or near Buffalo that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is encouraged.
