Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Salina, KS.

There are recovery programs available in or near Salina that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
