It is a fact that individuals in treatment for alcohol and/or drug addiction are much more likely to smoke tobacco, 75% in fact. As such very few programs handle the problem as a primary addiction, even though the fact that helping people quit smoking while in rehab is associated with a 25% greater chance they will remain sober from alcohol and drugs. As a result, there are 'smoking not allowed' drug rehabilitation programs in Bush that enforce a smoking ban and most of them also offer nicotine addiction treatment.
While total bans on smoking are definitely not normal, an increasing number of facilities are actually starting to implement their own bans, but also state and local tobacco-free workplace mandates attempt to make facilities completely smoke-free environments. In so doing, these mandates avoid the need to develop and implement facility policies that are already legally in place and enforced legally by state and local agencies. Enforcing a complete ban on smoking may make hesitant potential clients who smoke starting treatment. At the same time it will help those who do choose a no smoking substance abuse rehab center be better able to get sober in a completely drug and addiction free environment.
