It is a fact that people in treatment for alcohol and/or drug addiction are more likely to smoke tobacco, 75 percent in fact. With that being said very few centers address the situation as a primary addiction, even though the fact that helping clients stop smoking tobacco during treatment is associated with a 25% greater possibility they will remain sober from drugs and alcohol. As a result, there are 'smoking not allowed' drug treatment programs in Eastern that enforce a smoking ban and most of them also provide nicotine addiction treatment.
While complete smoking bans are not normal, more and more rehabs are starting to implement their own bans, but also state and local tobacco-free workplace mandates angle to make facilities completely smoke-free environments. In so doing, they avoid the need to develop and implement facility policies that are already legally in place and enforced legally by state and local agencies. Implementing a complete ban on smoking may make hesitant potential clients who smoke starting treatment. In the meantime, it will help those who do choose a smoking not allowed alcohol and/or drug addiction rehab program be better able to get sober in a completely drug and addiction free environment.
