The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Monticello are programs that are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can get their basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
