SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Richmond, KY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Richmond are programs that are legally permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every three years depending on the kind of certification that was granted.
