The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Chesterfield are programs that are officially permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been granted.
