Medicare is a federal program that helps pay for health benefits for people living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering certain types of treatment.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but policy holders will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers a total of 190 days of inpatient care, as in during the individual's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B pays up to 80% of the costs for outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation. This includes outpatient care, therapy, treatment for co-occurring disorders such as anxiety disorders or depression and drugs administered by clinics. It also covers professional interventions.
Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for people who want additional health insurance in addition to what the other parts of Medicare have to offer. Individuals who have Part C may have more options available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers substance abuse related medications. Including medications needed for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as medications required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
