Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Ware, MA.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Ware which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will instead not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
