DWI Clients - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - DHS, MD.

DWI clients in treatment need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the terms of their court sentencing. Rehab programs which help satisfy these demands and terms, which are typically far more lenient than traditional sentencing which would include large fines and incarceration, are available in DHS to deliver DWI classes, therapy, and additional evaluation for clients with serious drug or alcohol issues.

Drug and Alcohol Education is an essential tool used at rehabs catering to DWI clients. There are different levels of alcohol education and this can differ by state. Level I education usually consist of 12 hours of education about the effects of alcohol and drugs. This is the what a person with a first offense or someone under 21 will ordinarily be required to complete. Level II classes would consist of both substance abuse education and therapy at a court approved program. The duration the client will need to remain in therapy depends upon a few factors, which can be, for example, the number of DWI's the individual has had, and the seriousness of the offense. Ordinarily, individuals will be required to take the Level II DWI classes and therapy unless their blood-alcohol content level was extremely low when they were arrested and there were no other significant infractions when the person was arrested.
