Persons with HIV or AIDS - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - DHS, MD.

For persons with HIV/AIDS who also fight with a substance abuse problem, their pre-existing continuing medical condition is something that must be recognized and addressed simultaneously while they receive rehab for their drug or alcohol addiction. Keeping this client in rehab is not only essential for their well-being, but for the good of the general public due to the fact they may spread their disease to others in the case their drug or alcohol issue continue.

Often, clients who struggle with both issues at the same time may have let their bodies decline due to the lack of care most addicted individuals give themselves even when they are without HIV or AIDS. Some quit taking their medication, don't go to the Doctor, etc. and may need significant medical intervention once they get substance abuse rehab. Aside from treatment for their drug or alcohol problem, in a rehabilitation facility which provides treatment for people with HIV or AIDS, clients will receive a medical exam to see if they are experiencing any other illnesses associated with their disease. This would include screening for tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, B, and C, diabetes, dental issues, other STDs and mental health disorders.

Addiction rehabilitation for individuals with HIV/AIDS in DHS would include detox treatment that are responsibly conducted with both the patient and the treatment staff in mind. Through counseling, psychotherapy and holistic services individuals with HIV or AIDS become inspired to be sober and healthier, and attending recovery meetings where other individuals have the same sober goal is strongly encouraged.
