Intensive outpatient treatment, or "IOP", is a form of treatment for a substance abuse problem that is substantially more involved and comprehensive than a conventional outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental aspect of recovery for recovering individuals in Corea who have just finished residential or inpatient rehab, and still require moderate support and encouragement while they progress to a sober and wholesome way of living. IOP's involve treatment which occurs much more often than standard outpatient, where the person will participate in treatment services and activities on a part time basis unless otherwise determined.
Intensive outpatient treatment usually consists of individual and group counseling and therapy sessions to continue to treat the person's addiction. Individual sessions will occur at least once a week, and group sessions will add the peer support that is essential for long term sobriety. In intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on improving relapse prevention skills, managing every day challenges and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any lingering withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment centers offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be beneficial for clients who must repair their relationships with their families and loved ones.
