Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. An opioid treatment program can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was given.
