The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Fort Kent Mills are programs which are officially allowed to give out the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab program can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been given.
