Partial hospitalization/Day Treatment is a type of out-patient substance abuse rehabilitation program which is just below intensive out-patient and more intensive than normal out-patient treatment. Partial Hospitalization Day Treatment is also tailored to people who may need intensive rehabilitation for a co-occurring mental health disorder, but don't need 24 hour intervention and care. For a client who has completed inpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization day treatment program in Oakland could help them make the transition more easily into a drug-free way of life as a "step-down" option. After partial hospitalization day treatment, the individual could then phase into regular outpatient treatment.
When someone is in a partial hospitalization day treatment facility, they commonly participate in services anywhere from three to five days per week. It is similar to an in-patient treatment program in many important ways, including the fact that people will get access tomental health professionals, physicians and nurses who can address the physical, emotional and psychological issues they are trying to overcome. For at least 4-6 hours on the days that individuals participate in partial hospitalization day treatment, the clients will get one-on-one addiction therapy, psychotherapy services, participate in group counseling, receive any needed medical care and address any of the mental health issues that trigger their alcohol and drug addiction.
